I would like to clarify the difference between a food allergy and a possible reaction to a cosmetic product used externally on the skin (rather than something that is orally ingested).
For example, many people apply facial creams every day. Some of the ingredients used in these creams could potentially cause allergies if they were eaten. However, when applied to the skin, they usually do not cause the same reaction. This is because the skin acts as a protective barrier. Only very small molecules can pass through the skin. In general, molecules larger than about 500 daltons (0.5 kDa) cannot easily penetrate the skin or mucosal barrier. This means that most ingredients in the product are not absorbed by the skin.
If not absorbed by the skin, why add them to the product?
Most of the ingredients used in NeuEve products are not intended to be absorbed into the body. Instead, they help support the natural balance of the vaginal environment by nourishing beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus, which play an important role in protecting against harmful bacteria and fungi.
Lactobacillus is a latin word. Lacto means "milk." Milk is the favored food for this bacterium. Yogurt is made with Lactobacillus. It delivers favored nutrients to the vaginal lactobacillus, which in turn promotes women's health. Yogurt here is not intended to feed humans, it is the food for vaginal Lactobacillus, and it cannot be absorbed by the vaginal skin because the molecular size of the milk protein casein is about 22 kDa, much larger than the size limit that the skin can absorb.
You can think of it somewhat like feeding a pet. Some ingredients in pet food might cause allergies if eaten by humans, but when used as intended—to feed the pet—they do not affect the person handling the food. In a similar way, NeuEve products help support the beneficial bacteria that naturally protect the vaginal environment. This mechanism is sometimes described as selective feeding. To date, more than 300,000 women have used NeuEve products. We have not received reports of allergic reactions related to the ingredients in the formula. In the past, some ingredients were listed as part of a proprietary blend, but we recently decided to list all ingredients more transparently so that customers can better understand what is in the product.
If you suspect that the product may cause an allergy, you can do a patch test on your inner aim. If it does not cause redness or itching in your inner aim, the product can be used without an issue. If you have already used NeuEve for several months without experiencing any allergic reactions, which is a very good sign that your body tolerates the product well. You do not need to worry about a potential allergy.
